How to do it right: Lighting the candles

The candles on the altar are named after the side of the church they are on.

When you stand in the aisle and face the front of the church (the altar), the LEFT side of the church is called the GOSPEL side.
The RIGHT side of the church is called the EPISTLE side.
The Gospel candle (the one on the LEFT when you face the altar) is never supposed to burn by itself.

"The Gospel Candle never burns alone"

So --- light the candles from right to left. Stop in the middle of the altar and reverence it by bowing.

When you put the candles out -- remember, the Gospel Candle never burns alone.
So put the candles out from left to right (put the Gospel Candle out first).
